Daniel 3

NEBUCHADNEZZAR THE king [caused to be] made an image of gold, whose height was sixty cubits or ninety feet and its breadth six cubits or nine feet. He set it up on the plain of Dura in the province of Babylon. 2 Then Nebuchadnezzar the king sent to gather together the satraps, the deputies, the governors, the judges and chief stargazers, the treasurers, the counselors, the sheriffs and lawyers, and all the chief officials of the provinces to come to the dedication of the image which King Nebuchadnezzar had [caused to be] set up. 3 Then the satraps, the deputies, the governors, the judges and chief stargazers, the treasurers, the counselors, the sheriffs and lawyers, and all the chief officials of the provinces were gathered together for the dedication of the image that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up, and they stood before the image that Nebuchadnezzar had set up. 4 Then the herald cried aloud, You are commanded, O peoples, nations, and languages, 5 That when you hear the sound of the horn, pipe, lyre, trigon, harp, dulcimer or bagpipe, and every kind of music, you are to fall down and worship the golden image that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up. 6 And whoever does not fall down and worship shall that very hour be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. 7 Therefore, when all the peoples heard the sound of the horn, pipe, lyre, trigon, dulcimer or bagpipe, and every kind of music, all the peoples, nations, and languages fell down and worshiped the golden image that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.

My Thoughts About These Verses As I Listen To The Holy Spirit:

In trying to make a "good" life for ourselves here, for holding on to what we want, how we want it and why we want it, is this bowing down to an "image". We have a certain "image" in mind of how our lives should be and what they should look like and when things come our way that tarnish that image, do we bow down to the "image" we desire? All I can say is that I have made so many mistakes bowing down to my "image". Forgive me Jesus! This life is not about me, not about what I want, but all about You. How did I get so off track? I fit into my Babylon, it changed me.

8 Therefore at that time certain men of Chaldean descent came near and brought [malicious] accusations against the Jews.9 They said to King Nebuchadnezzar, O king, live forever!10 You, O king, have made a decree that every man who hears the sound of the horn, pipe, lyre, trigon, harp, dulcimer or bagpipe, and every kind of music shall fall down and worship the golden image, 11 And that whoever does not fall down and worship shall be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. 12 There are certain Jews whom you have appointed and set over the affairs of the province of Babylon--Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. These men, O king, pay no attention to you; they do not serve your gods or worship the golden image which you have set up.

My Thoughts About These Verses As I Listen To The Holy Spirit:

The Kingdom of God or this earth? What will I bow to? Will I bow to this world and all its trappings? Or will I desire to be found in the image of God, to be like Him, to be like His Kingdom? Our culture puts up an "image" of who we should be, how we should be it and if we don't look like that "cultural image" we are unhappy and dissatisfied. We do so many things to be like the "cultural image". We go in debt, we live above our means, we work more to make more money, we spend less time with our families, more time perusing our "image"! In this world, we have way too many choices, in God's Kingdom we have one choice, Jesus Christ - Followship!

13 Then Nebuchadnezzar in rage and fury commanded to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego; and these men were brought before the king. 14 [Then] Nebuchadnezzar said to them, Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, that you do not serve my gods or worship the golden image which I have set up? 15 Now if you are ready when you hear the sound of the horn, pipe, lyre, trigon, harp, dulcimer or bagpipe, and every kind of music to fall down and worship the image which I have made, very good. But if you do not worship, you shall be cast at once into the midst of a burning fiery furnace, and who is that god who can deliver you out of my hands? 16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, it is not necessary for us to answer you on this point. 17 If our God Whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, He will deliver us out of your hand, O king. 18 But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image which you have set up!

My Thoughts About These Verses As I Listen To The Holy Spirit:

I have so much "stuff"… If I felt like I needed something, I got it, even if I did not have the money to pay for it, I charged it. I have indulged in this culture and bowed down to the "cultural-image" and the "have it how, you want it and when you want it, get it. I have impulsively spent money, not caring how I would pay for it. I wanted it, I charged it. I was a giver, I loved giving and I gave and gave and our debt rose and rose. Money spends fast on credit! I served an "image" it was a good image, being a giver, always being the one who paid the check when we went out to dinner, always being the one who bought all the food when we had family gatherings, always giving, always buying for others because it made me feel good to give. I loved giving and I fed that indulgence. I kindled my own giving fires and walked by the light of a man made fire. I could not afford to give like I gave. I spent thousands of dollars on my business products and I gave them all away, I never made money and now I have no business. Someone once said: I could never out-give you. I loved giving, it was my "image" that I bowed down to and my culture indulgence of credit – spend now and pay later. We got thrown into a fiery trial and we almost lost everything, but God… He saved us out of the fire, but not before our bondages were burned off. WE are free. Life is really different now for us, our choices reflect our heart changes. If I want to give a gift, I must sacrifice in order to do it and what a joy that is, it gave giving a whole new meaning. Our focus has changed to a Kingdom focus and we see more clearly the traps laid out for us. We are no longer indulging in our culture and we are learning and growing through some hard consequences because we did. God was the fourth man in our fiery trial, He let us be delivered from that fire and for that we are eternally grateful.

My Thoughts About These Verses As I Listen To The Holy Spirit:

Our enemy will offer us a way out – it will be so easy, and we think it won't cost us anything but we give up our belief, our faith, our hope, our peace when we take the broad road. They did not hold on to this world, they were clinging to God, even in the face of a horrible death, they chose God. I have clung to this world and pursued the "American Dream" and when I got it, I still was not happy, it did not fulfill me, I still wanted more. It is so true when you work so hard to get what you think you really, really wanted, it doesn't stop there, it doesn't make you fulfilled or content. I will not serve this self indulgent culture with my wants, I will serve God, pursing Him as my One Desire, serving Him with my life and all I have.

19 Then Nebuchadnezzar was full of fury and his facial expression was changed [to antagonism] against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Therefore he commanded that the furnace should be heated seven times hotter than it was usually heated. 20 And he commanded the strongest men in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace. 21 Then these [three] men were bound in their cloaks, their tunics or undergarments, their turbans, and their other clothing, and they were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. 22 Therefore because the king's commandment was urgent and the furnace exceedingly hot, the flame and sparks from the fire killed those men who handled Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. 23 And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, fell down bound into the burning fiery furnace. 24 Then Nebuchadnezzar the king [saw and] was astounded, and he jumped up and said to his counselors, Did we not cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered, True, O king.25 He answered, Behold, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they are not hurt! And the form of the fourth is like a son of the gods!

My Thoughts About These Verses As I Listen To The Holy Spirit:

All I can say about this is AWE-GOD!

26 Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, you servants of the Most High God, come out and come here. Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego came out from the midst of the fire.27 And the satraps, the deputies, the governors, and the king's counselors gathered around together and saw these men--that the fire had no power upon their bodies, nor was the hair of their head singed; neither were their garments scorched or changed in color or condition, nor had even the smell of smoke clung to them.28 Then Nebuchadnezzar said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, Who has sent His angel and delivered His servants who believed in, trusted in, and relied on Him! And they set aside the king's command and yielded their bodies rather than serve or worship any god except their own God.29 Therefore I make a decree that any people, nation, and language that speaks anything amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego shall be cut in pieces and their houses be made a dunghill, for there is no other God who can deliver in this way! 30 Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the province of Babylon.

My Thoughts About These Verses As I Listen To The Holy Spirit:

It is crazy how God can turn things around for our good and His glory. This very king was so angry with them, so much so that he made the fire so hot that they people who threw them in died! The king built a gold image, to prove that he was the only power, he commanded people to bow down to it and now he is praising God and promoting Shadrach, Meshack and Abednego, the very ones he just tried to kill. AWE-GOD! God has a way of transforming our troubles in His special way that we could not even begin to imagine what is in store when we walk into a trial. He is so amazing, so creative and so purposeful that our minds could not contain what He can and will do to bring glory to His Kingdom on earth and it is in heaven!

Where did a ninety foot statute come into Nebuchadnezzar's mind?

The inspiration from building an image does not come from God's Spirit. If Babylon is about anything, a place, or an mentality… if Babylon is about anything, it is about building an image! In our culture we can find anything we can possibly see to build an image of ourselves that is much better, brighter, than the present reality. How would we know if we are selves are image builders? Has this kind of Babylon defiled us? How would be know if we were image builders? If in truth we are different from what we seem, we are image builders. In Truth- Sincerity are different from what we seem, we are image builders. WE are presenting ourselves as something on the outside that is not true on the inside. WE are the same person in the dark as we are in the light of day. The same consistent person. Nebe was in image builder!

Daniel 2: 36  This was the dream, and we will tell the interpretation of it to the king.37  You, O king, are king of the [earthly] kings to whom the God of heaven has given the kingdom, the power, the might, and the glory. 38  And wherever the children of men dwell, and the beasts of the field, and the birds of the heavens--He has given them into your hand and has made you to rule over them all. You [king of Babylon] are the head of gold.39  And after you shall arise another kingdom [the Medo-Persian], inferior to you, and still a third kingdom of bronze [Greece under Alexander the Great] which shall bear rule over all the earth.40  And the fourth kingdom [Rome] shall be strong as iron, since iron breaks to pieces and subdues all things; and like iron which crushes, it shall break and crush all these.

1^st Kingdom head was gold! 3:1 He built the monument out of gold! He had been told another kingdom was coming and 16 years had passed and no sign of a silver, bronze, iron kingdom, he had decided that his would be the enduring kingdom. He built a monument to himself, saying to himself, he would be the enduring kingdom. Those He foreknew, He predestined to be formed into the Image of His Son… we have an image and it is Christ-likeness. We are image builders in Christ's Likeness.

VS 8- 12! Everyone bow except for three men standing up - everyone else is worshipping the image.

Daniel 2:48 Then the king made Daniel great and gave him many great gifts, and he made him to rule over the whole province of Babylon and to be chief governor over all the wise men of Babylon.49 And Daniel requested of the king and he appointed Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego over the affairs of the province of Babylon. But Daniel remained in the gate of the king [at the king's court].

The king placed Daniel in a high position so he is at his post, not with them. They are standing up and firm, knowing it is at the risk of their lives, and they are doing it without Daniel, their leader

The absence of your residence "strong one" is a divine set up to step up. We all have groups we hang out with, we have "strong ones" in our group. What happens when the strong one isn't there? You have a divine set up for a step up! Get up, it is you, you are on! If you have been the weaker party, it is time to step up. Respond to circumstances that God sets us in. When circumstances ordain it is our time of weakness, then we can see the strength of God in us. Step up and Step in…

Daniel 3:13-18 Notice the missing title! Oh Nebuchadnezzar! We will not worship your god or the image of gold you have put up. We face three different scenarios when we face a fiery trial. Immediately they were in danger, their lives on the line. We face fires and some of us are in those fires now.

We have found a mass or a lump that becomes an immediate concern and the doctor says it looks like cancer

Senario A: Delivered From The Fire – Pray For Deliverance From The Fiery Trial – Believe Him For Miracles – He Works Them Continuously. His priority is the inner man as He prepares His Bride for Himself. Our Faith is built and boost!

Senario B: We can be delivered through the fire – deliver me through it – get to the other side – This sickeness will not end in death, I will bring you through it.

1 Peter 1:6-7 [You should] be exceedingly glad on this account, though now for a little while you may be distressed by trials and suffer temptations,7  So that [the genuineness] of your faith may be tested, [your faith] which is infinitely more precious than the perishable gold which is tested and purified by fire. [This proving of your faith is intended] to redound to [your] praise and glory and honor when Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One) is revealed.

Dividend: Your Faith Is Refined! To refine our faith, we have to go through the fire. We will not escape fires, our faith has to be refined.

Senario C: Persevering Through The Fire – We can be delivered by the fire straight into God's arms. If we understood in a blink of an eye what awaits us, we would not hold on to this that we know. To live is Christ, to die is gain. It is difficult to face this kind of fire.

Hebrews 12:1-2

1  THEREFORE THEN, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses [who have borne testimony to the Truth], let us strip off and throw aside every encumbrance (unnecessary weight) and that sin which so readily (deftly and cleverly) clings to and entangles us, and let us run with patient endurance and steady and active persistence the appointed course of the race that is set before us,2  Looking away [from all that will distract] to Jesus, Who is the Leader and the Source of our faith [giving the first incentive for our belief] and is also its Finisher [bringing it to maturity and perfection]. He, for the joy [of obtaining the prize] that was set before Him, endured the cross, despising and ignoring the shame, and is now seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

For The Joy Set Before Us! Jesus hates the pain death has caused. The last foe, He will defeat is death. Our faith is perfected, made complete – meets its goal. Why would God choose Senario C for me? To vastly increase what He can bless us with as we see Him face to face.

James 4:12 Blessed (happy, to be envied) is the man who is patient under trial and stands up under temptation, for when he has stood the test and been approved, he will receive [the victor's] crown of life which God has promised to those who love Him.

We have to get home somehow, we are going to die. There is nothing about your inner man that dies, all it is dropping off this body.

17 If our God Whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, He will deliver us out of your hand, O king. 18 But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image which you have set up!

What gods are we tempted to bow to when we are not delivered from? What kind of gods would we be tempted to bow to: bitterness, unbelief, anger, self-pity, despair, resentment… It doesn't take a 90 foot image is for us to be tempted to bow down. All it takes is for us to think, He is not coming through for me. They said it straight out: we will not bow down no matter what.

Philippians 1:12

12  Now I want you to know and continue to rest assured, brethren, that what [has happened] to me [this imprisonment] has actually only served to advance and give a renewed impetus to the [spreading of the] good news (the Gospel).

My circumstances have become a servant of the gospel. When it looks like our fiery trial is not going to let up, our circumstances bow down as a servant to the gospel. Believe God to the last breathe. I know my God is wonderful, faithful and good and He must be anxious to see me. There are some things that are worth dying for. There are values that transcend our temporary, vaporous lives, there are some things that are worth dying for.

VS 19-24

It was not uncommon for kings to burn up those who would not be subservient to them. There are many miracles that happen all over the big one. They lived to get to the mouth of the fire was a miracle, it consumed the soldiers who put them in… miracle…

There is a forth man in that fire…. Son of Deity- Translated – Commentaries say: The Son of God! Some Commentaries say it is the angel Gabriel or another angel.

Isaiah 43:1   BUT NOW [in spite of past judgments for Israel's sins], thus says the Lord, He Who created you, O Jacob, and He Who formed you, O Israel: Fear not, for I have redeemed you [ransomed you by paying a price instead of leaving you captives]; I have called you by your name; you are Mine.2  When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned or scorched, nor will the flame kindle upon you.3  For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I give Egypt [to the Babylonians] for your ransom, Ethiopia and Seba [a province of Ethiopia] in exchange [for your release].

When you walk through the fire… we will walk through a fire, our faith will be refined. When we are going through fiery trials, He Himself is with us.

Theoyfiny : Visible manifestation of God! A visible manifestation of God in human form, it is Christ.

I summon you by name: He called them by their name in the fire. He called them by the names that were giving that were replete in meaning… Every time we go through a fiery trial there are four in the fire: Us, Holy Spirit, Jesus, Father God.

VS 25  He answered, Behold, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they are not hurt! And the form of the fourth is like a son of the gods!

Keep walking in the fire: Their bonds were the only thing that was burned in the fire. God will allow us to go through a firery furnace of tribulation to free us from a long standing area of bondage. We will come out unburned, but our chains will be burned.

I Peter 4: 1  SO, SINCE Christ suffered in the flesh for us, for you , arm yourselves with the same thought and purpose [patiently to suffer rather than fail to please God]. For whoever has suffered in the flesh [having the mind of Christ] is done with [intentional] sin [has stopped pleasing himself and the world, and pleases God],

Done with sin: IN the greek it is a will cessation, When we go through such a trial, where we suffer terrible for a while, we will come out on the other side and bondages will be burned off of us, we will no longer have that bondage we had before we went into the fire.

VS 26  Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, you servants of the Most High God, come out and come here. Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego came out from the midst of the fire.

Notice he does not die, where the other people who threw them into the fire did… another miracle… He did not call for the 4^th person in the fire. They came out of the fire and they did not even smell like smoke.. Full deliverance is not smelling like smoke – you hear people's story and you marvel and say I would never have imagined you went through that, you don't even smell like smoke!

Believers around the world consider western Christians to be light weights because we are surrounded by the over indulgent Babylon.

God wants us not to be a "light-weight"… He wants us to handle tribulation and trials with praise, worship, thanksgiving. If we can live through this Babylon and not become a Babylonian, we can praise God. We would not be defiled by the self-indulgent and self centered culture that surrounds us.

VS 28 They trusted in Him and defied the kings command… Only time it is ever used in the Old Testament- "trusted" Aramaic Word- He pulls out a word that is not used anywhere in scripture-

Rehas corresponded to a root that means to lave the whole or part of a thing to bathe self- wash—How is it connected to trust. The connection is the idea of a servant ministering at the bath to attend upon and to trust. It has connection in its root to a washing- The way to avoid getting burned is to bathe in God's Presence… VS 29 He recognized God and promoted those who stood for them. There last mention in the bible was in the context of God's fame, what a way to go out. The last sight we have of them was in a context of a God made famous by them. This is how we want to finish up.

It is not about us being protected from difficulty. Lord we are not asking You for ease, we want Your fame. Have mercy on us, we don't want to ask for trial or for suffering, but this world is full of it, it is just here. May the last context our names are ever spoken, be for Your fame! AMEN!

Developing My AWE-GOD Through Gratefulness

I am in AWE of You Lord – Creator God! You created the seasons and they are majestic, each having its own beauty. You are Amazing Lord God. I think of Your Awesome Power in these transitional times where the season coming in and the season going out clash and the weather is violent. As spring is coming in and winter is going out, one day is warm and sunny and the next day is stormy, cold and snow flurrying. Only YOU Lord God could be in control and I see Your Faithfulness in the seasons that change from Winter To Spring To Summer To Fall and all I can say is AWE-GOD!

 

Daniel 2:22 He reveals the deep and secret things; He knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with Him!

AWE-GOD! I am grateful for the mystery of You, that is revealed by Your Powerful Light! Jesus! Wisdom Is Sustained In Your Light! Thank You Father!

Holy Spirit Inspired…. He speaks, I listen and obey… Thank you for teaching Me!

My Thoughts About This:

I have been so notice that a lot about the seasons, really noticing (the Holy Spirit shining His Light on it) how a lot of my life has been in seasons and how God created the earth in seasons. So now in a really hard season of my life, it does comfort me because I know this season will pass, there will be an end to it and I must do what I can to learn from it, to be better when I move into the next season of life God has for me. I really hear the Holy Spirit encouraging me to grow the most I can in each season, don't grumble through the hard ones, grow through them and don't get lazy through the easy ones, grow through them.

I hope all is well with each of you! We serve a POWERFUL God! I like to say Omnipresent-Omnipotence! The AWE-GOD of this family is always BEING. He is our families greatest Advocate. I pray our deepest desire would be to know God more, to be His completely. In January God asked me to bow, He asked that my 1^st step out of each day would be down, bowed at His feet. I can't tell you what a blessing this has been. Every day I lay my will at His feet. I ask Him to reveal Himself to me in my day. I praise Him and thank Him for another day to be an encouragement to others and I ask Him to guide me. I encourage you, sweet family to bow before God each morning, it will bless you in a great way! Daniel 4

NEBUCHADNEZZAR THE king, to all people, nations, and languages that dwell on all the earth: May peace be multiplied to you! 2 It seemed good to me to show the signs and wonders that the Most High God has performed toward me. 3 How great are His signs! And how mighty His wonders! His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and His dominion is from generation to generation.

My Thoughts About These Verses As I Listen To The Holy Spirit:

It seems like to me that at this point Nebuchadnezzar knows God only by what He did for Him. He is in awe of what God did. He talks about his signs and wonders, but not personally about God as His Lord. When I 1^st got saved, it was kind of like I had the same heart condition. I knew Jesus was my Savior, but I was still very much on the throne of my life.

4 I, Nebuchadnezzar, was at rest in my house and prospering in my palace.5

I had a dream which made me afraid, and the thoughts and imaginations and the visions of my head as I was lying upon my bed troubled and agitated me.6 Therefore I made a decree to bring in all the wise men of Babylon before me, that they might make known to me the interpretation of the dream.7 Then the magicians, the enchanters, the Chaldeans, and the astrologers came in, and I told them the dream, but they could not make known to me the interpretation of it.8 But at last Daniel came in before me--he who was named Belteshazzar, after the name of my god, and in whom is the Spirit of the Holy God--and I told the dream before him, saying,9 O Belteshazzar, chief of the magicians, because I know that the Spirit of the Holy God is in you and no secret mystery is a burden or troubles you, tell me the visions of my dream that I have seen and the interpretation of it.10

My Thoughts About These Verses As I Listen To The Holy Spirit:

I know I have been like Nebuchadnezzar in some ways, I have been troubled in spirit and sought advice from everyone but God. It is funny how you can see it so clearly in someone else's testimony. Nebuchadnessar already saw what God could do, yet he did not go to God 1^st. When human intervention did not work, he sought out someone He knew had God in him. God will keep working with us, keep letting situations hit our lives that draw us to a completely in Him, that create in us a heart that puts Him 1^st. It seems when trials hit my life, that is when I can see my heart condition the clearest, because what is inside comes out.

The visions of my head [as I lay] on my bed were these: I saw, and behold, [there was] a tree in the midst of the earth, and its height was great.11 The tree grew and was strong and its height reached to the heavens, and the sight of it reached to the end of the whole earth.12 Its leaves were fair and its fruit abundant, and in it was food for all. The living creatures of the field found shade under it, and the birds of the sky dwelt in its branches; and all flesh was fed from it.13 I saw in the visions of my head [as I lay] on my bed, and behold, a watcher, a holy one, came down from heaven.14 He cried aloud [with might] and said, Cut down the tree and cut off its branches; shake off its leaves and scatter its fruit. Let the living creatures flee from under it and the fowls from its branches.15 Nevertheless leave the stump of its roots in the earth, bound with a band of iron and bronze, in the midst of the tender grass of the field. Let him be wet with the dew of the heavens, and let him share the lot of the living creatures in the grass of the earth.16 Let his nature and understanding be changed from a man's and let a beast's nature and understanding be given him, and let seven times [or years] pass over him.17 This sentence is by the decree of the [heavenly] watchers and the decision is by the word of the holy ones, to the intent that the living may know that the Most High [God] rules the kingdom of mankind and gives it to whomever He will and sets over it the humblest and lowliest of men. 18 This dream I, King Nebuchadnezzar, have seen. And you, O Belteshazzar [Daniel], declare now its interpretation, since all the wise men of my kingdom are not able to make known to me the interpretation; but you are able, for the Spirit of the Holy God is in you.

My Thoughts About These Verses As I Listen To The Holy Spirit:

I think this is so cool that the Daniels life was so full of God, that the king who was desperate for answers knew that Daniel would have them, because God was in him. I'd say that is a testimony or a reputation that I would desire to have. To have people drawn to you because they see Christ in you that much! Hmmmmmmmmm! Make it so Lord Jesus!

1^st 6 Chapters: Living with integrity in a very enticing world in our own Babylon

Don't get weary in you well doing, it is not about legalism, it is about focus – Daniel Fast

WE are going to learn a lesson from the life of king Nebuchadnezzar, we want to learn this lesson by personal experience, but learn it from the.

1Cor 10:6 Now these things are examples (warnings and admonitions) for us not to desire or crave or covet or lust after evil and carnal things as they did

The apostle Paul is being used by God to tell us that we can learn from a poor example, it is there so we do not set our heart on the same evil

A Watcher, a holy one from heaven, a messenger VS 13 Seven times= Seven sets of seasons= seven years….

When you acknowledge that heaven rules! Have you acknowledged in whatever your circumstances may be that heaven rules. To know it, to be convinced of it in our inner selves. VS 26 Heaven Rules!

Lesson today two part: WE got to set up and we have to fall down. Divine set up to step up, God removed our strong one, we come against a difficult crisis and we have to step up. This is a different kind of set up: a lesson of how to bring our lives to a crashing halt in the deepest pit. How do we set ourselves up for a fall into the deepest pit and know God is always there for us, He warns us in advance. It is important for us to know what to avoid as much as what to partake in. The set up to come crashing down. VS 30 We are told through the annals of history that there has never been a city quite as Babylon, the most spectacular city in all the worlds… the hanging gardens one of the most 7 wonders of the world. When all of the royal treasury belongs to you, you can do all kinds of things. City has double walls that were amazing and beautiful. Babylon was at its zenith, 100 years after the time of Nebuchadnezzar overlooking the city, saying is this not the place I have built. Neb was not ruling Babylon, it was ruling him. Babylon is a mentality, a philosophy and not a place for us. We are surrounded by Babylon, our culture is worldly carnal and we are famous for it allover the world. WE adopted Daniels attitude to not be defiled by the culture. We can't hide from the culture, we can't be defiled but must be relevant.

Two warning signs we are being corrupted by Babylon, we can see a waving waring sign when we loose touch with the poor. VS 27 Renounce your sins by doing what is right and your wickedness by being kind to the oppressed, by showing mercy to the poor. When you look up the Hebrew word it specifically means the poor, showing mercy to the poor…. VS 4 Contented and prosperous- he had totally detached himself from the oppressed and the poor. Daniel brought about the warning to show mercy to the poor and stop ignoring the needs of the oppressed, this is a warning sign to us, compared to the rest of the world we are the wealthy, the rich… when we can sit contented and prosperous and we forget there are people with serious needs, that is a waving red flag we are being corrupted by our Babylon. Hebrew word means: to be favorable, kind, to have pity, to complain to make lovely… what does that mean to complain? IT means there are times we find a public format, a platform to go forward and say we believe, to say with tact, I cannot live with what I see here, there must be something that can be done here for the poor. If we are not going to be imploded with self absorption it is because we make up our minds not to live in it.

Philipp Yancy: Soul Survivor …. Settling into the entitlements of privilege. We belong to a privileged minority. In comparison to the peoples of the world, rich is anyone who can buy a book and can read it. If you have a car, you are among the rich and privileged. How do we the privileged one act, we can rip off the labels we put on others, we can begin with humility, gratitude and reverence and pray for unceasing love.

If we don t want to buy the Babylonian mentality and become self absorbed we have to fight it, become mindful and active where people are concerned. Actively loving, praying and helping.

Isaiah 58:10-11

8  Then shall your light break forth like the morning, and your healing (your restoration and the power of a new life) shall spring forth speedily; your righteousness (your rightness, your justice, and your right relationship with God) shall go before you [conducting you to peace and prosperity], and the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard. 9  Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer; you shall cry, and He will say, Here I am. If you take away from your midst yokes of oppression 10  And if you pour out that with which you sustain your own life for the hungry and satisfy the need of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in darkness, and your obscurity and gloom become like the noonday.11  And the Lord shall guide you continually and satisfy you in drought and in dry places and make strong your bones. And you shall be like a watered garden and like a spring of water whose waters fail not.

It is to keep us from the sickness of self consumption! WE can lose touch with our poverty of spirit. God where would I be without you, what would I be and what would I be capable of. I am destitute without You, I have to have You= poverty of spirit.

VS30 Is not this the great Babylon I have built? That I is called an emphatic in the Aramaic language. I myself

Isaiah 47:8-10 The motto of Babylon I am and there is none beside me, this is the Babylon philosophy

8  Therefore now, hear this, you who love pleasures and are given over to them, you who dwell safely and sit securely, who say in your mind, I am [the mistress] and there is no one else besides me. I shall not sit as a widow, nor shall I know the loss of children.9  But these two things shall come to you in a moment, in one day: loss of children and widowhood. They shall come upon you in full measure, in spite of the multitude of [your claims to] power given you by the assistance of evil spirits, in spite of the great abundance of your enchantments. 10  For you [Babylon] have trusted in your wickedness; you have said, No one sees me. Your wisdom and your knowledge led you astray, and you said in your heart and mind, I am, and there is no one besides me.

You want to find yourself in a pit, the way down is up! If you want to find yourself in the lowest possible pit, in God's economy is the way down is trying to put ourselves up.

God knows where and when to draw the line: VS 28 Neb did not heed the warning and 12 months later: 28  All this was fulfilled and came upon King Nebuchadnezzar.29  At the end of twelve months he was walking in the royal palace of Babylon.

God does not have a boundaries problem and He knows where to draw a line. He did not let him go any further. God's patience is geared toward our repentance. His patience does set limits! It does not run out, He just stops applying it to that situation. He is a God Who means what He says: VS 31-33

It means animals who are out in the field. What has been said about Nebuchadnezzar was fulfilled. His hair is like feathers, means it is the matting of the hair that has not been touched for a long time.

***Where there are many words there is much falling, the more you talk or share the more you are liable to say something stupid.

Do I know what it is like to have hurtful things in a family? We all deal with hurtful things within our families. We even deal with mental illnesses in our families, such as Nebuchadnezzar was thrown into. What happened to Nebuchadnezzar was not a form of mental illness, yet many families deal with bi-polar disorder; depression; alcoholism; delusions; paranoia, sexual addictions, religious fanatics, OCD; overspending; over anything… over doing everything… they have called ten thousand cries… two laughs to every thousand cries is what some of us grow through in our family lives… We need to pray like crazy and hope huge God performs miracles… this lesson is about divine discipline, not mental illness, Nebuchadnezzar had a perfectly sound and brilliant mind that was touched by a season by God in order to be humbled.

God does not want us to think we are better than anyone we serve, He will crush our pride, to break us free from self righteousness.

When you make a statement for another ones benefit, it is prideful and self righteous and you are trying to change someone by your own power. Your words hold no power.

WE all have things that need sifting in our lives - just like Nebuchadnezzar. Is there any such thing as a life long lesson? Change us for life! Nebuchadnezzar needed a reminder every couple of decades, must we have a descent into the pit every so often so we will remember not to think highly of ourselves, is this what it will take. WE can't think highly of ourselves, we can't look down on other people, we are no better than the people we serve.

Those who walk in pride, He is able to humble. Our God is able to humble us. Deliver us from the fiery pit of pride.

God's patients sets limits and thankfully so does His discipline. VS 23 – leave the stump bound with iron and bronze… He used the iron and bronze to make sure it was untouched. The tree was not to be completely destroyed, the stump was bound with iron and bronze which means the strong band or fence was to be placed around the roots, in order to protect it from destruction. When the Lord cuts you down to the stump, he chains down the roots in order to protect it from complete destruction, in order to grow it back and seek to produce healthy fruit… during your time of chastisement you are being protected, it will only go so far as you are being conformed into the goal that God has for us. Whom He loves, He protects… you must have deep root stock because sometimes our roots are all we have… the goal of cutting back the tree is that it would grow again and produce healthy fruit. It is to the Fathers glory that our lives produce fruit, it is to His glory when he cuts back the fruit

Daniel 4: 34  And at the end of the days [seven years], I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted up my eyes to heaven, and my understanding and the right use of my mind returned to me; and I blessed the Most High [God] and I praised and honored and glorified Him Who lives forever, Whose dominion is an everlasting dominion; and His kingdom endures from generation to generation

The king acknowledged that heaven rules and the Most High God rules. How do we keep pride from getting the best of us… in God's economy the way up is down… get on your knees, bow down as a physical reminder to humble yourself before God…

1 Peter 5:6…

Therefore humble yourselves [demote, lower yourselves in your own estimation] under the mighty hand of God, that in due time He may exalt you,

How low can you go… face down to the floor, humbly proclaiming Jesus sis Lord.

Clothe yourself in humility? How? Clothe ourselves in humility on purpose. Every day we confess before God, Who He is and that we are His children. WE never steal his glory and we blend into our culture with Him, so that what everyone sees is Him. Father we need Your help, humility does not come natural, what comes is pride arrogance self absorption and self centeredness. Help us to make a commitment to be counter cultured people who care not callous, people who serve, servants bond slaves of the most high God… Lord overtake us until nothing is left but You. Thank you Lord, that You are faithful and the goal to being cut back to a stump is growth and the end result is fruit that brings glory to You.

I am in a holy alliance with god- his word

We are to clothe ourselves in humility? Dress in such a way as not to be self righteous or think of ourselves as higher than others.

Romans 13:13-14

Let us live and conduct ourselves honorably and becomingly as in the [open light of] day, not in reveling (carousing) and drunkenness, not in immorality and debauchery (sensuality and licentiousness), not in quarreling and jealousy. 14 But clothe yourself with the Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah), and make no provision for [indulging] the flesh [put a stop to thinking about the evil cravings of your physical nature] to [gratify its] desires (lusts).

Colossians 3:11-13
