Daniel Week Three

Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to the king, "O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter." Daniel 3:16

Daniel 3:13-23

Furious with rage, Nebuchadnezzar summoned Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. So these men were brought before the king, 14 and Nebuchadnezzar said to them, "Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, that you do not serve my gods or worship the image of gold I have set up? 15 Now when you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe and all kinds of music, if you are ready to fall down and worship the image I made, very good. But if you do not worship it, you will be thrown immediately into a blazing furnace. Then what god will be able to rescue you from my hand?"

16 Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to him, "King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. 17 If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us[a] from Your Majesty's hand. 18 But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up." 19 Then Nebuchadnezzar was furious with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, and his attitude toward them changed. He ordered the furnace heated seven times hotter than usual 20 and commanded some of the strongest soldiers in his army to tie up Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego and throw them into the blazing furnace. 21 So these men, wearing their robes, trousers, turbans and other clothes, were bound and thrown into the blazing furnace. 22 The king's command was so urgent and the furnace so hot that the flames of the fire killed the soldiers who took up Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, 23 and these three men, firmly tied, fell into the blazing furnace.

My Thoughts About These Verses As I Listen To The Holy Spirit:

One thing I noticed 1^st about this verse is that Nebuchadnezzar was set up by the enemy to be upset. He walked into the enemies enticement and was furious with rage… enticed by self importance. Very interesting how the same enemy does the same thing to us… sets us up! The enemy plays into our pride, he sets us up for failure, sets us up for angry impulsive moments hoping we will speak out of this anger and say words that can never be taken back, words he can then use to torment us and others. Dan 3:16 I love their answer to the king: "We don't have to defend ourselves." I tell you what, this is my biggest trap. Whenever I try to defend myself, I fall hard. It never quite works out in a Godly way. I don't think you can defend yourself without stepping into pride, it is the human condition. Also, I think it is you trying to make your own way in your own timing. It could also be a bit of unbelief in there. God's purposes in play around us, work out in Kingdom Time and are perfect in their revelation from the unseen to the seen of our reality.

Don't let the enemy set you up today to be upset. Guard Your heart. Don't step into upset by walking in pride. Walk in God's Truth and Light! God's Got This!

Beth Moore: WE also don't get the feeling from the text that they prepared their defense prior to being dragged before the king. For people with true conviction, certain decisions have already been made. No amount of discussion would change one simple fact: they would not bow. No matter what.

My Thoughts About These Verses As I Listen To The Holy Spirit:

Wow… that is so awesome. The main thing is that the "settled it" Sometimes we don't take the time to "settle it" before the it comes up in our situations. I know there are a lot of things that I have "settled it"! I know my response before it comes up. A lot of things in my marriage, in protecting my marriage that I don't do, I "settled it". A lot of things with my health, things I just don't eat because they affect the way I feel I "settled it" before they are served, I know I won't eat them. I don't go to "R" rated movies or watch them on DVD… I "settled it" before they came out. I bow before God every morning, because I so need Him I "settled it", therefore I bow each day!
