Diligently Obey

"… This will happen if you diligently obey the Lord your God." Zechariah 6:15 b

Diligent obedience to the Lord is a command for the follower of Jesus Christ. We have the responsibility, the opportunity and the obligation to obey. What a joy to receive marching orders from Jesus. He is the Commander in Chief. What He says and expects matters dearly, as obedience can be the difference between joy or despair and life or death. Our obedience facilitates God's will for our life and for the lives of those around us. We cannot handle the blessings of God, if we are not obedient to the commands of God. He blesses our hard work when we apply our skills and gifts well. However, what keeps us successful and creditable is our character. When we sow obedience we reap character. When we sow disobedience we become a character. Thus, diligently obey the Lord. Obedience matters to your family. Your example of obedience propels them to do the same. It may mean a job change or a change of churches, but explain to your family the Lord's leading. Share your fears with your family. Then pray together and ask God to empower you to obey. Diligent obedience also matters to your work associates. They follow what you do, not what you say. Obedience pays dividends now and for eternity. "Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life" (Galatians 6:6-8).

How do you know if you are obeying God? His word is your first indicator. Ask Him to reveal His truth and ways to you. He is looking for a hungry heart of obedience. It delights God to instruct His teachable child in His will. Let the word of God seep into your soul through prayer and meditation. Memorize it, learn it, and, most importantly, apply it. Be volitional in your obedience. Obey even when you don't feel like it. If you feel a certain way, your emotions may betray you and tell you its ok to not obey. Flee from this faulty thinking. God's word is living and active. He will speak into the deepest recesses of your heart. Listen intently and diligently; then do what He is says. Do not hold back or be distracted. He may be saying to meet with the ones you have offended or those who have offended you. You need to take the first step in reconciliation. There is a purpose much greater than your hurt feelings. By God's grace, forgive and let Him heal your hurting heart. Do not jeopardize the bigger vision for your own selfish needs. It may take a wise mediator to listen to both sides and make a recommendation. Do whatever the mediator suggests. This is a way of diligently obeying God. Yes, it is humbling. Yes, it is a little humiliating, but this is God's plan. Do not allow the severed relationship with family or friends to fester. You may win the short-term battle of wills, but there is a good chance you will lose the long-term relational war. Diligent obedience requires a humble faith.

"I call with all my heart; answer me, LORD, and I will obey your decrees. I call out to you; save me and I will keep your statutes" (Psalm 119-145-146).

Where is the Lord calling me to diligently obey with humble faith?

My Thoughts About This

God is asking me to submit my will to Him, to trust that He is working for my good, even if it doesn't feel like it. He wants me to completely surrender the way I want things done, to learn new things and be open to being taught in circumstances that are very uncomfortable. My will gets in the way, He wants me to obey, but obey with a willessness, this is a step further than just doing something because it is right, He wants to enlarge my tent pegs in this area and learn a willessness in my obedience. It has been very difficult for me, especially as the tests have come. I have failed two of them. I hope to learn from this. Yet, the cool thing is God keeps giving me a second chance to try again. He knows my heart, I do want to learn. God judges from our hearts and I believe more than anything, He wants our hearts engaged in our obedience. We can't engage our hearts when our will is a stumbling block for heartfelt obedience.

2 Kings 22:13 "Go and inquire of the LORD for me and for the people and for all Judah about what is written in this book that has been found. Great is the LORD's anger that burns against us because those who have gone before us have not obeyed the words of this book; they have not acted in accordance with all that is written there concerning us."

I said, 'Obey me and do everything I command you, and you will be my people, and I will be your God. 5 Then I will fulfill the oath I swore to your ancestors, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey'—the land you possess today." I answered, "Amen, LORD." 6 The LORD said to me, "Proclaim all these words in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem: 'Listen to the terms of this covenant and follow them. 7 From the time I brought your ancestors up from Egypt until today, I warned them again and again, saying, "Obey me."

Luke 6 ~ The Message Bible 48-49 "If you work the words into your life, you are like a smart carpenter who dug deep and laid the foundation of his house on bedrock. When the river burst its banks and crashed against the house, nothing could shake it; it was built to last. But if you just use my words in Bible studies and don't work them into your life, you are like a dumb carpenter who built a house but skipped the foundation. When the swollen river came crashing in, it collapsed like a house of cards. It was a total loss."

My Thoughts About These Verses:

Teach me Holy Spirit how to work the words of Life into my heart, so my 1st response is a reflection of the Word of God. Help me to build my life on the bedrock of Your Mighty Word, Your Promises and Your Peace!

A Minute With Maxwell

Believe! To believe in something is to motivate, instill purpose in you. Believe in gthe purpose and cause of Who you were created. You can believe but not achieve unless you have the ability, believe gets you started then you compliment it with hard work and you can become the person you believe you can come. Believe in something is to motivate you, instill purpose in you. Believe in the purpose and cause you were created. Don't be too simplistic about believing. If you can believe it, you can achieve it. You must have the resources, help, giftedness and opportunity. Believe gets you started and then you have to compliment it with hard work and good choices to become the person you believe you can be.

My Thoughts About This:

Belief was my second choice, the 1st one was followship! I was introduced to Jesus and I knew He was Who I wanted, I decided to follow Him, and then I decided to believe in Him completely. Followship is my choice and believing is the reaction of my following Jesus choice by choice. I see my potential in Christ as I follow Him and I pursue all things Jesus, believing He can change me and I can be found in His purposes where He wants me to be. I work hard at making the right choices to know Him better, following Him more and receiving from Him everything He has for me. To me, belief is followship! Believing is following Jesus!

Psalm 107

O GIVE thanks to the Lord, for He is good; for His mercy and loving-kindness endure forever! 2 Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom He has delivered from the hand of the adversary,3 And gathered them out of the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the [Red] Sea in the south.4 Some wandered in the wilderness in a solitary desert track; they found no city for habitation. 5 Hungry and thirsty, they fainted; their lives were near to being extinguished. 6 Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and He delivered them out of their distresses.7 He led them forth by the straight and right way, that they might go to a city where they could establish their homes. 8 Oh, that men would praise [and confess to] the Lord for His goodness and loving-kindness and His wonderful works to the children of men!9 For He satisfies the longing soul and fills the hungry soul with good.10 Some sat in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in affliction and in irons, 11 Because they had rebelled against the words of God and spurned the counsel of the Most High. 12 Therefore He bowed down their hearts with hard labor; they stumbled and fell down, and there was none to help. 13 Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and He saved them out of their distresses.14 He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death and broke apart the bonds that held them. 15 Oh, that men would praise [and confess to] the Lord for His goodness and loving-kindness and His wonderful works to the children of men!16 For He has broken the gates of bronze and cut the bars of iron apart.17 Some are fools [made ill] because of the way of their transgressions and are afflicted because of their iniquities. 18 They loathe every kind of food, and they draw near to the gates of death. 19 Then they cry to the Lord in their trouble, and He delivers them out of their distresses. 20 He sends forth His word and heals them and rescues them from the pit and destruction. 21 Oh, that men would praise [and confess to] the Lord for His goodness and loving-kindness and His wonderful works to the children of men! 22 And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving and rehearse His deeds with shouts of joy and singing! 23 Some go down to the sea and travel over it in ships to do business in great waters; 24 These see the works of the Lord and His wonders in the deep. 25 For He commands and raises up the stormy wind, which lifts up the waves of the sea.26 [Those aboard] mount up to the heavens, they go down again to the deeps; their courage melts away because of their plight.27 They reel to and fro and stagger like a drunken man and are at their wits' end [all their wisdom has come to nothing].28 Then they cry to the Lord in their trouble, and He brings them out of their distresses. 29 He hushes the storm to a calm and to a gentle whisper, so that the waves of the sea are still. 30 Then the men are glad because of the calm, and He brings them to their desired haven. 31 Oh, that men would praise [and confess to] the Lord for His goodness and loving-kindness and His wonderful works to the children of men! 32 Let them exalt Him also in the congregation of the people and praise Him in the company of the elders.33 He turns rivers into a wilderness, water springs into a thirsty ground, 34 A fruitful land into a barren, salt waste, because of the wickedness of those who dwell in it. 35 He turns a wilderness into a pool of water and a dry ground into water springs; 36 And there He makes the hungry to dwell, that they may prepare a city for habitation,37 And sow fields, and plant vineyards which yield fruits of increase.38 He blesses them also, so that they are multiplied greatly, and allows not their cattle to decrease.39 When they are diminished and bowed down through oppression, trouble, and sorrow,40 He pours contempt upon princes and causes them to wander in waste places where there is no road.41 Yet He raises the poor and needy from affliction and makes their families like a flock.42 The upright shall see it and be glad, but all iniquity shall shut its mouth.43 Whoso is wise [if there be any truly wise] will observe and heed these things; and they will diligently consider the mercy and loving-kindness of the Lord.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4

Notes From Listening To 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

Paul an apostle of Christ by the will of God… Grace and peace to You from God our Father. Praise Be to the Father of Compassion, the God of all comfort… Who comfort us, so we can comfort others with the comfort we have received…. Through God our comfort overflows to others…. Comfort produces in us patient endurance. Our hope is firm because we share in sufferings and comfort. This happened so that we may not rely upon ourselves. God delivers us. We set our hope on God that He will continue to deliver us. This is our boast… we have conducted ourselves in our relationships with Godliness according to God's grace, not worldly wisdom. I make my plans in a Godly way…. Our message is not yes and no, but in Him it has always been Yes… promises made by God are Yes in Christ…. Through Him the AMEN is spoken by us to the glory of God…. God sets his seal of ownership on us and put His spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. We work with You for your joy because it is by faith you stand firm

"We must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God." - Acts 14:22

God's people have their trials. It was never designed by God, when he chose his people, that they should be an untried people. They were chosen in the furnace of affliction; they were never chosen to worldly peace and earthly joy. Freedom from sickness and the pains of mortality was never promised them; but when their Lord drew up the charter of privileges, he included chastisements amongst the things to which they should inevitably be heirs. Trials are a part of our lot; they were predestinated for us in Christ's last legacy. So surely as the stars are fashioned by his hands, and their orbits fixed by him, so surely are our trials allotted to us: he has ordained their season and their place, their intensity and the effect they shall have upon us. Good men must never expect to escape troubles; if they do, they will be disappointed, for none of their predecessors have been without them. Mark the patience of Job; remember Abraham, for he had his trials, and by his faith under them, he became the "Father of the faithful." Note well the biographies of all the patriarchs, prophets, apostles, and martyrs, and you shall discover none of those whom God made vessels of mercy, who were not made to pass through the fire of affliction. It is ordained of old that the cross of trouble should be engraved on every vessel of mercy, as the royal mark whereby the King's vessels of honor are distinguished. But although tribulation is thus the path of God's children, they have the comfort of knowing that their Master has traversed it before them; they have his presence and sympathy to cheer them, his grace to support them, and his example to teach them how to endure; and when they reach "the kingdom," it will more than make amends for the "much tribulation" through which they passed to enter it.

JESUS: THE FORERUNNER

Hebrews 6:20 Where the forerunner has entered for us, even Jesus, having become High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek

Key Thought: Jesus Is Preparing Heaven For You

Excerpts From Book:

Jesus is the Forerunner who has gone to Heaven first for us.

Jesus is the Forerunner who went into Heaven to announce the arrival of the Church.

So live confidently this day, because Jesus is preparing Heaven for you. He is praying for you as you journey homeward.

John 14:1 DO NOT let your hearts be troubled (distressed, agitated). You believe in and adhere to and trust in and rely on God; believe in and adhere to and trust in and rely also on Me. 2 In My Father's house there are many dwelling places (homes). If it were not so, I would have told you; for I am going away to prepare a place for you. 3 And when (if) I go and make ready a place for you, I will come back again and will take you to Myself, that where I am you may be also.

Everything is ready because Jesus is the Forerunner who prepared the way! Way Maker Jesus!

Thank you Lord!

Hebrews 6

So come on, let's leave the preschool fingerpainting exercises on Christ and get on with the grand work of art. Grow up in Christ. The basic foundational truths are in place: turning your back on "salvation by self-help" and turning in trust toward God; baptismal instructions; laying on of hands; resurrection of the dead; eternal judgment. God helping us, we'll stay true to all that. But there's so much more. Let's get on with it! 4-8Once people have seen the light, gotten a taste of heaven and been part of the work of the Holy Spirit, once they've personally experienced the sheer goodness of God's Word and the powers breaking in on us—if then they turn their backs on it, washing their hands of the whole thing, well, they can't start over as if nothing happened. That's impossible. Why, they've re-crucified Jesus! They've repudiated him in public! Parched ground that soaks up the rain and then produces an abundance of carrots and corn for its gardener gets God's "Well done!" But if it produces weeds and thistles, it's more likely to get cussed out. Fields like that are burned, not harvested. 9-12I'm sure that won't happen to you, friends. I have better things in mind for you—salvation things! God doesn't miss anything. He knows perfectly well all the love you've shown him by helping needy Christians, and that you keep at it. And now I want each of you to extend that same intensity toward a full-bodied hope, and keep at it till the finish. Don't drag your feet. Be like those who stay the course with committed faith and then get everything promised to them. God Gave His Word 13-18When God made his promise to Abraham, he backed it to the hilt, putting his own reputation on the line. He said, "I promise that I'll bless you with everything I have—bless and bless and bless!" Abraham stuck it out and got everything that had been promised to him. When people make promises, they guarantee them by appeal to some authority above them so that if there is any question that they'll make good on the promise, the authority will back them up. When God wanted to guarantee his promises, he gave his word, a rock-solid guarantee—God can't break his word. And because his word cannot change, the promise is likewise unchangeable. 18-20We who have run for our very lives to God have every reason to grab the promised hope with both hands and never let go. It's an unbreakable spiritual lifeline, reaching past all appearances right to the very presence of God where Jesus, running on ahead of us, has taken up his permanent post as high priest for us, in the order of Melchizedek.

Kimberly, let's learn from the ants!

Philippians 2:2 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.

If you look at the ant you will find that they dwell in colonies. Each colony consists of approximately 60,000 - 90,000 ants -- they really can't prosper on their own. They need each other. How does a colony of that many ants to work together? The only reason it works is that they operate in unity. Each ant shares the same purpose, the same goal, and the same aim.

Just as ants can't prosper on their own, neither can we as believers. As ants need each other, so do God's children. We need to dwell together as they do. The way we dwell together is by sharing the same purpose. We don't have to agree on when the tribulation or rapture is going to happen. Those are all secondary things. But we do have to be intent on the same purpose, to glorify God and spread His Word, to love God and each other. Let's aim to accomplish the task that God has set before us and God will be faithful bless our colony! Kimberly, we can't let the ants put God's people to shame! Stay encouraged and focused on the ultimate goal!

My Thoughts About This:

Bride Of Christ…operate in unity: share the same purpose! Purpose=Glorify God-Spread His Word-Love God-Love Each Other! Just Do It! Lord I pray it would be so in Your Bride of Christ! So Be It! Unify Us In Your Kingdom Purpose! AWE-GOD!

  • Notice that Nineveh is described as a "great city" four times in the book of Jonah (1:2, 3:2, 3:3, 4:11).
  • This city was also a city great with sin (check out Nahum 3:10).
  • How do you think Jonah felt about going to this city? (this is why he ran away!)
